A Charming old town house with a 50 metre walk to the rivers edge. Bourg-Charente is one of the prettiest river side villages in the Charente. On the opposite side of the river bank is the very beautiful Chateau de Bourg- Charente which produces Grand Marnier. The well known La Ribaudiere Michelin star restaurant with its garden reaching down to the river is just a moments walk away.
The first Bed and Breakfast room is a very large luxurious room with a double bed and a single bed. There is an ensuite bathroom with a free standing bath with shower mixer taps and a separate WC within this space. This room is 79 euros per night including breakfast. For a stay of over 7 nights it reduces to 69 euros a night after the first week, including breakfast. There will be a small supplement of 10 euros a night for a third person.
Our second room is a double ensuite room with a walk in shower. The bed is Napoleonic Tole ware but the mattress is thoroughly modern and very comfortable! There is a very large chest of drawers for storing clothes and in the hallway just outside the room is a lockable wardrobe for your use. Tea and coffee making facilities are available in the room as well. The bathroom features a vintage 1950's Parisian blue and white Toile de Jouy sink. It is a quirky but comfy room! Price is 59 euros a night including breakfast.
For bookings of both rooms by the same party there is a special rate for a 7 night stay for 896 euros. This is based on a maximum of 5 people (two couples and a minor), or two couples. This special offer includes breakfast for all guests, and a complimentary evening meal with wine on night of arrival.
Continental breakfast served from 8:30am until 10:30am. Breakfast will be provided earlier on request for those travelling early. Please let us know of any special dietary requirements and we will do our best to meet these. There is a kettle in the room for guests to make themselves hot drinks and we provide a range of lovely teas and coffee.
There is a secluded garden which houses an ancient Indian temple like structure with table and chairs and garden loungers. It is an ideal space for resting and dining and having barbeques. We have no pool, but there are allocated areas on the river Charente especially geared up for safe swimming and two local swimming pools. Also we are just over 1 hours drive to the beaches of Royan and La Rochelle. Royan is a lovely beach which even in the peak of summer season doesn't get too over crowded.
If desired we will provide an evening meal and wine, or a barbeque in the garden at 14 euros per head for guests not wanting to eat out every night. Dinner will be at 7:30pm in the dinning room. There is a lovely cafe/restaurant just under a moments walk away that also serves good quality food and wine for around the same price. La Ribaudiere Michelin star restaurant is also a moments walk down to the river front for those wanting a more extravagant evening out!
Activities and Culture
The Beautiful town of Cognac is approximately 4 miles away with its Cognac distilleries and ancient buildings as well as many restaurants and shops. Cognac 18 hole golf club with its very enjoyable restaurant open to all, is about 2 miles away. So this location is perfect for golfers and gourmands alike, and for those who enjoy culture or just a friendly lazy break by a beautiful river. Other activities include fishing and boating, at the beginning of July is the famous Cognac blues festival for those who like a more noisy and lively holiday. The lovely market town of Jarnac is the home of Courvoisier and is a 5 minute drive down the road. Alternatively you can take a relaxing walk following the river all the way to Jarnac, perfect for a chilled day out, having some nice lunch and a drink (or two if you choose to walk instead of drive!). We have explored the area for many years now and continue to find new places to visit so we are very happy to advise and make suggestions. There are so many lovely places to discover in the Charente.
